Alert (Urgent)

Industrial action update

A number of Health Care Assistants (HCAs) at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals have voted to take strike action for two days, from 7am on Monday, 22 September to 6.59am on Wednesday, 24 September. This follows a ballot of Unison members at the Trust relating to a dispute involving HCA pay.

The Trust is working hard to ensure that any impact on patients will be minimal, although there may be some impact on appointments and other services. If we have not contacted you, please attend your appointment as planned. The NHS will contact you if your appointment needs to be rescheduled.

Please continue to choose services appropriately, including using 111 online as the first port of call for health needs, and only using 999 if it is a serious or life-threatening emergency.

Regardless of any strike action, it is really important that patients who need urgent medical attention continue to come forward as normal, especially in emergency and serious life-threatening cases.

Notice for visitors

If you are planning to visit someone in hospital but you are feeling unwell yourself with diarrhoea and vomiting and/or respiratory symptoms, please be advised not to visit until you are feeling well again.

Our Emergency Department is currently really busy which could lead to long waits. Our teams are doing everything they can to see and treat patients as quickly and safely as possible. Please make sure you are going to the most appropriate place for your medical needs.
