Pre-Medical Work Experience
This structured three-day programme is specifically designed for learners who wish to pursue a career in the medicine.
The programme gives an insight into this chosen career and gives learners the opportunity to discuss and experience various medical related subjects and join a community of learners who are all wishing to apply to medical school.
Who can apply?
Interested learners who are 17 years of age and over, who wish to follow a career in medicine and live in the local area can apply

BTH Medical Society (Age 14+)
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals is proud to have an established Medical Society programme that is open to all 14+ high school age young people from the Fylde Coast.
If you’re interested in a career in medicine (a doctor for example), then Blackpool Teaching Hospital’s Medical Society is the place for you.
Being a part of our society will enable you to build contacts with local doctors and enhance your application to medical school. You will even receive a certificate of attendance to showcase in your application!
The society meets virtually every month, with a further 3 in-person sessions throughout the year. We welcome guest speakers to the sessions who provide insights into what a career in medicine entails.

Clinical Attachments
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers four week attachments to doctors
who have qualified overseas, who may or may not have GMC Registration but without work experience in the UK, who wish to undertake a clinical attachment. During the attachment they will to learn how medicine is practiced in the UK prior or to obtain employment. The advice from the British Medical Association (BMA) is that it is best practice to undertake an attachment after passing the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A robust application process is followed prior to confirmation of any attachment.
Who can apply?
Doctors who have no experience of the NHS.
How do they apply?
Requests for placements can be made via email from the supervising consultant or candidate in person with the application form.
