Jema Strother, winner of the Exellence in Apprenticeship award.pngAs part of Healthcare Science week which took place Monday, 10 March to Sunday, 16 March and aims to inspire the scientific workforce of the future, the LEAPS awards celebrated the hard work of healthcare scientists across Lancashire and South Cumbria. 

The second annual Learning, Excellence and Achievements in Physiological Sciences (LEAPS) awards was presented by Clare Ellis, BTH's Director of Clinical Professionals and Lead Healthcare Scientist. Clare gave an overview of the awards, explaining that one of the goals was to share knowledge of the profession and to improve visibility of colleagues working in the profession. 

There are 8 categories in the awards and there were a total of 35 nominations received for BTH colleagues.

Manager of the year:

  • Highly commended: Emily Sinkinson, Clinical Neurophysiology and Medical Photography Service Manager
  • Winner: Angelic Goode, CIU Manager Service Lead

Team of the year:

  •  Highly Commended: GI Physiology teamEchocardiography team
  • Winner: Audiology team

Student trainer/mentor:

  • Winner: Gordon Richmond, Specialised cardiac physiologist 

Excellence in practice:

  • Winner: Peter Elson, Cardiac physiologist

Excellence in apprenticeships:

  • Highly Commended: Amanda Ryan, Respiratory & Sleep Physiology, Charlotte Miller, Apprentice Cardiac Physiologist
  • Winner: Jema Strother, Respiratory and Sleep Physiotherapy
