Colleagues at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals have been awarded Neonatal Nurses Association (NNA) Neonatal Team of Year 2024.
Our neonatal unit provides specialised care for around 500 sick or premature babies every year and is one of few units that is able to offer transitional care to families. Transitional care is the support the team provide to babies, mums and their families to help them continue their care independently as they leave the unit and go home. Some families can be supported by the unit for months so involving the whole family is important to the service.
The team was nominated by a parent who felt colleagues embodied the NNA’s values of openness, inclusivity, innovation, commitment and supportive. In the nomination they said the team “have gone above and beyond to provide the most outstanding care to each and every baby who crosses their path.”
The NNA said: “Each year The Neonatal Nurses Association (NNA) receives nominations from across the UK for our prestigious NNA Awards. Competition is high as there are a great deal of excellent nurses and teams completing incredible work and projects.
We are delighted to award the Neonatal Team at Blackpool Victoria Hospital with the distinguished NNA Neonatal Team of the Year Award 2024. This award is recognition of your team's hard work, expertise, and passion for individualised care.
“Your team shone bright and are deserved winners - huge congratulations!”
Neonatal Matron, Julie Kearney, said: “The team are thrilled to receive the award for Neonatal Team of the Year. It means so much to be nominated by a parent who had a baby on the unit for the care that we provide. I am so proud to lead the team, who go above and beyond to ensure families have the best experience possible at such a stressful time in their lives.”
