ED volunteer Charlotte Wright may only have been with us since the summer but she’s already set her sights on a medical career. Charlotte starts a paramedic training course next month and sees her shifts at the hospital as a great way to gain experience for the course.
As a young mum with a toddler to look after, any volunteering has to be flexible so that Charlotte can manage her time without having additional pressure. She says “I’ve always wanted to work in healthcare and there is really high demand for paramedic courses. As I’ll be spending 2 days a week at uni when my course starts, I will doing 1 day at week volunteering here. I’ve already done roles here such as navigating and working on the ward but meeting new people and making them smile whilst they’re waiting in ED feels really worthwhile”.
Volunteers Manager, Catherine Henshaw says “Volunteering is a great way to make friends and make a contribution to your local community whether you’re starting in work and want different experiences or you’re towards the end of a career or retired and want something to keep you active.”
