Today as Healthcare Science Week continues, we meet Emily Sinkinson.

What is your name, role and where is your place of work?

My name is Emily Sinkinson, and I am the Neurophysiology and Medical Photography Services Manager at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Describe a day in the life of your role

On a day-day basis I am required to perform a range of diagnostic tests on patients which include Electroencephalographs (EEG’s), Visual Evoked Potential’s (VEP’s) and Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS).  These tests are performed on a wide range of patients with neurological conditions and include both outpatients and inpatients.  I also undertake management duties between my clinical duties which include organising workloads, problem solving and attending meetings.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I really appreciate that no two days are the same. I enjoy the interaction with a wide range of patients, and the interaction with staff from different disciplines.

What was your career path to the position you’re in now?

I studied a 4 year BSc Hons in Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) to gain access into the field of Neurophysiology.  After qualifying I undertook training opportunities to qualify in intra-operative neuromonitoring, which I did for several years before becoming a manager.

What is your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement to date would be when I became a manager.  To be able to manage the departments I am passionate about is a fantastic opportunity.
