Children and young people, as well as their parents and carers, are being encouraged to share their experiences of the local NHS as part of an initiative due to begin next month.
Labelled ‘Feedback Fortnight’, it is a pilot project being led by the children and young people team at Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB), alongside partners from across the region.
Taking place from Monday 3 to Friday 14 March, engagement will be carried out with children, young people and their families and carers to understand their experiences of health services and ways in which services and programmes can be improved.
The drive follows the ICB last year adopting the ‘Lundy Model’ - a children's rights-based approach to participation that informs the way in which services are designed and delivered.
Vanessa Wilson, director of children, young people and maternity for the ICB, said: “It is important that the opinions of children and young people and their families are considered when decisions are being made about services that they use. Feedback Fortnight is a great opportunity for us to hear those opinions and use them to support future service design.
“Gaining a wider range of views in decision making is probably one of the most effective ways to improve services moving forward, and initiatives like this aim to demonstrate how the opinions of children and young people and their families can make a real difference.
“Those that take part will be able to see a detailed report on their feedback and be able to see any changes that may happen as a result via the ICB website.”
Insights will be collected at a roadshow of face-to-face sessions at family hubs, and community and hospital clinics, and online via a survey that is available on the ICB website.
The full list of roadshow events is also available via the same web page.
Some of the topics the ICB is looking for feedback on will include how they find access to services and their satisfaction levels with care, waiting times and information provided, with a final report to be made available on the ICB website.
