blackpool ride the lights.pngMultiple events are taking place this week leading up to the official illumination switch-on on Friday, 30 August.  

Whether you will be walking, running or riding the lights this week, we hope you have a fun and safe journey.  

To help everyone have a good time we have put together some top tips to stay safe:  

 

Ride the Lights on Tuesday, 27 August 

  • have a minimum of one white light at the front and one red light at the back 

  • wear a helmet  

  • a responsible adult must accompany all children 

  • the tramway will be operational throughout the ride, take special care in the area around North Pier/Metropole Hotel  

  • if you breakdown there are Bike Doctors and support vehicles who can help you  

  • the Prom will be closed between Squires Gate Lane and Pennystone Road from 6pm and will re-open to traffic at 10.30pm. Please try to plan your ride to reach your destination by this time, and be aware of traffic after this time.

 

Blackpool Night Run on Wednesday, 28 August 

  • wear appropriate footwear and clothing  

  • wear something reflective

  • the Prom will be closed between Chapel Street and Pennystone Road from 6.30pm until 10.30pm  

  • plan your route before you travel and be aware of any road closures  

 

Blackpool illuminations switch on event on Friday, 30 August 

  • take a fully charged mobile phone 

  • plan your route before travelling 

  • all children should be accompanied by a responsible adult 

  • if travelling in a group, arrange a place to meet up in case you get separated  

  • look out for each other and fellow attendees 

  • be mindful of the weather 

  • keep a close eye on your belongings and valuables 

  • the Prom will be closed between Chapel Street and Springfield Road from 4pm until 10pm

If you begin to feel unwell during any of these events first reach out to the marshals and first aiders along the route if you need help and it is not a serious or life-threatening illness or accident the following local services will be able to help you:
