All2.pngThe combined Education Showcase and Educator Awards took place last month and annually allows for a celebration of all the fantastic educational achievements that happens across the Trust and to shine a spotlight on the work that our educators do to train our future workforce.

 

The awards and our winners were:

  • Best Poster for the Education Showcase – Dr Muhammad Bilal Ramzan and Dr Vipin Sharma
  • Teaching and Inspiration – Dr Bisma Nazir
  • Educational Department of the Year – Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Educator of the Year –
    • Consultant Educator of the Year – Dr Nazar Ulla Syed
    • General Practice Educator of the Year – Dr Caroline Espada
    • Resident Doctor Educator of the Year – Dr Rasha Ibrahim
  • Lifetime Achievement Award - Mr Nigel Kidner

Colleagues from across the Trust were invited to submit poster presentations which showcased groundbreaking work including, educational achievements, educational advancements, teaching and training innovations such as ‘The Laparoscopic Stack System for Training’ by Miss Corinne Owers and ‘The Art of Science in Medical Undergrad’ by Chris Veevers.

These were then displayed in the Education Centre on the day of the awards for attendees to view before the ceremony. The posters were judged on the day by Mr Chris Barben, Medical Director at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, Dr Aruna Hodgson, Associate Dean for NHS England Northwest and Dr Steve Davies, Associate Director of Medical Education. The award for Best Poster was presented to Dr Muhammad Bilal Ramzan and Dr Vipin Sharma for their poster on Rotavators.

The Educator Awards celebrates educators that have gone above and beyond to support our medical learners which includes medical students, physician associates and resident doctors.

Dr Hodgson and Mr Barben presented the awards and took the time to thank all our educators for their hard work and dedication to training. Mr Barben also went on to acknowledge that in times of pressure and our ever-changing environments it is not always easy to put teaching and training at the forefront, but we are a Trust that continuously strives to provide quality learning.

This year the Teaching and Inspiration Award category was added in honour of Dr Joyathis Manalayil, who tragically passed away in 2022 following an accident. Dr Manalayil completed his two-year Foundation Programme training at the Trust and progressed to become a Trainee Anaesthetist with another Trust. Dr Manalayil remained involved in the education of our medical students through teaching sessions.

Internal Medicine Trainee, Dr Bisma Nazir, received this award for her supportive and caring attitude in the delivery of her teaching and working tirelessly to arrange teaching sessions for colleagues, medical students, and postgraduate trainees.

Educational Department of the Year was awarded to the Cardiothoracic Surgery department who received many fantastic nominations for both the department and the consultants working there. The department was chosen for their patience, commitment to training, and their outstanding support for all learners.

Educator of the Year Award was split into the following categories:

  • Consultant Educator of the Year was awarded to Dr Nazar Ulla Syed
  • General Practice Educator of the Year was awarded to Dr Caroline Espada
  • Resident Doctor Educator of the Year was awarded to Dr Rasha Ibrahim
