Volunteer Richard with the donated books library.jpgEnsuring a patient can stay as active as possible while in hospital is an important part of patient well-being.

Our new patient library will be a part of enhancing patient care by supporting them to keep their mind active. There are a large variety of books, from thrillers to autobiographies, humour to fiction, that will suit all interests.

The patient library can be found on the first floor of the hospital above the Berry Offices and patients are able to freely access books during their stay at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, they are also welcome to take the books home with them.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals welcome donations of good condition books. If you have any that you would like to donate, these can be dropped off at the Voluntary Services office in the Spiritual Care Centre, off the main corridor.

The initiative got off the ground with the support of our volunteers like Richard, pictured, who sorted through the books, ensuring they were in good condition and the collection was varied. Many of the books in the library have been donated by our volunteers who wanted to help enhance the patient experience.

Our volunteers make a unique and valuable contribution to patients, carers, visitors, and staff within Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust.

We have more than 30 roles to choose from, there really is something for everyone and are always looking for more people who would like to help us enhance the experience of our patients, the experience and well-being of our staff, and add value to the services provided within the Trust supporting us in achieving our mission, vision, and Trust objective.
