Teams from across Blackpool Teaching Hospitals have been shortlisted for a range of categories in the Nursing Times Awards.
The Nursing Times Awards bring together the nursing community ‘to shine a light on the brightest talent in the profession’.
In total, awards are given out in 23 categories and this year, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals has been shortlisted in seven.
A joint project between the Trinity Hospice Specialist Palliative Care Team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals and the Trust has been shortlisted in the Critical and Emergency Care Nursing category. The project provides daily Specialist Palliative Care in-reach into the Trust’s Emergency Department, to support both patients and staff.
Dr Harriet Preston, Palliative Medicine Consultant, says: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award. The team are proud of this work and the difference it continues to make for our patients and their families”
The project was recognised in the Trust’s own Quality Improvement Awards for 2022 as the first recipient of the Pakho Li Award, named after a much-loved colleague.
Trinity Hospice’s Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Hospital Team Leader Kellie Gittins and CNS Team Leader Natalie Wilson said: “After its success at the Trust’s Quality Improvement Awards, we’re absolutely delighted that our Emergency Department project has once again been recognised for the difference it is making to patients and their loved ones in our area. We’re incredibly proud of our collaborative work with the teams at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.”
Meanwhile, two projects spearheaded by the Trust’s Safeguarding Team have been shortlisted in a total of six award categories.
Operation Provide is a multi-agency programme involving the Trust and Lancashire Constabulary to support victims of domestic abuse across Blackpool, Fylde Coast and North Lancashire. The project has been shortlisted in three categories:

Team of the Year.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Department Navigator Service works to provide support for young people who attend hospital with violence-related injuries. This project has also been shortlisted in three categories:

Winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday, 25 October at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London.
