What are Community Diagnostic Centres? (CDCs)

CDCs provide a broad range of elective diagnostics away from our major hospital sites, residents are able to attend a CDC as an alternative to hospital for a range of tests including X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans and ultrasound. Certain cardiac and respiratory tests along with blood tests are offered also. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals manages two CDCs in Fleetwood and Whitegate Drive Heath Centre.

CDCs reduces pressure on our hospital, but provides our patients with access to diagnostic appointments with shorter waiting times and at times that are more convenient for them. Thanks to the additional testing capacity within the community that CDCs provide, we aim to reduce health inequalities and improve health outcomes for our patients.

The National Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) Programme is now in its third year and has approved 170 CDC sites across England, of which 8 are now operational in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
