Each ward has a day room with seating area and large TV. There is also an area in the day room where we encourage patients to have their meals and socialise with other patients.
We encourage relatives and visitors to use this area as well when they are visiting patients. On wards one and two there are patio doors that open to a well-maintained garden.
Our staff encourage patients to use the day room for social engagement, activities, watching TV or listening to music. Physiotherapy exercises and balance groups are also held in the day room.
We have a physiotherapy gym and a therapy kitchen where patients are assessed if necessary to see how they would manage in their own home. We work hard to promote self-care, independence and confidence prior to discharge where possible.
We are committed to supporting you maintain your independence. Getting up, getting dressed and getting moving will help you do this.
That’s why we encourage you to wear day clothes while you are an inpatient, so bring these with you. Each bed has a wardrobe and drawers where they can be
We are unable to wash your clothes so please ask relatives/visitors do this for you. Any soiled washing will be put in soluble bags. These can be put directly into your washing machine and washed at 60 degrees.
Patients also require supportive shoes and slippers that fit well to wear while they are with us. We also ask that if you have any walking aids or incontinence aids that you use at home to bring them with you. You will also need to bring toiletries.
Each ward has a shower room and assisted bath. Nursing staff can provide assistance to patients who wish to use the shower or bath during their stay.
Morning. The ward day starts at around 7am with a morning drink.
At around 7.30am patients are encouraged to wash and dress. Assistance to do this will be given by the staff on duty, if necessary.
Breakfast starts at 8.30am. After breakfast we encourage you to take part in a variety of activities if you choose to do so.
Afternoon. Lunch starts at 12pm. After lunch you are encouraged to have a rest on your bed if you wish to do so.
Evening. Evening meal starts at 5pm. You will be supported to get ready for bed at whatever time you choose. Supper is at around 9.30pm.
Meals are served in the day room on the wards or by the bedside. We actively encourage patients to have their meals in the day room on each ward. Patients who require a specific diet will be catered for, please discuss this with staff. If you have any food allergies please let the Nursing team know.
Snacks and hot drinks are offered regularly throughout the day. The wards operate a protected mealtime policy. This means that no clinical activity takes place other than in an emergency during meal times. This ensures that all staff are free to assist with meal provision to patients.
We do not encourage visiting at meal times, unless you require and wish to have the support from your relative or carer.

There are day rooms on every ward with a television, stereo, bookcase and activity table for you to use as you and the other patients wish. We do encourage you to use the day room during your stay and not stay by your bed every day. We see this as an important part of your rehabilitation.
In the day rooms there is space where you can sit and eat your meals. As part of your rehabilitation, we encourage you to do this and staff will support you to go to the dining area at mealtimes if you wish to.
