Patient Initiated Follow Up or PIFU is a way of putting YOU in control.
It provides you with direct access to guidance when YOU most need it. Research has shown that many patients do not require regular follow-up after a plan of care has been set up.
However, some people may experience anxiety if regular contact has been withdrawn.
The PIFU the Medical Retina Unit offers is:
• 6,12,18 or 24 month period of access to the macular service based on your agreed plan of care.
• after your PIFU period you will be discharged from the service.
After your PIFU period you will need to contact your Optician or G.P to be referred back into the Macular service.
