The Patient Transport Service (PTS) is operated by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and provides non-emergency transport to and from the hospital.
This service is for patients unable to get to or from hospital due to physical or medical conditions. Transport should be booked through your GP.
Getting home from a hospital following an inpatient stay should be organised by the patient or supported by friends of relatives.
Use of the Patient Transport Service will only be considered when all other options have been excluded. Where this is necessary, options include:
- A bus ticket valid for the day of discharge only
- A taxi where the patient meets the criteria as assessed by the clinical site matron on shift
- An ambulance discharge where the patients has physical or medical limitations which means this is their only possible mode of discharge
