Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioners (CYWPs) work within the community to make therapy more accessible to those with mild-moderate and early onset mental health difficulties.

We aim to do this in a non-stigmatising way so that emotional well-being and mental health can be championed and talked about in the same way as physical health.  We aim to offer timely, direct, psychological interventions to prevent deterioration of emotional wellbeing.

We want to get the right treatment to the right person at the right time and may signpost to a more appropriate local provider or support referral to specialist services.

Our service is aimed at preventing children and young people’s difficulties from getting worse or needing further, more intensive support, later.

CYWPs can provide comprehensive assessments, including risk assessments, to ensure that a CYWP intervention feels like a good fit for your child and if not, we can signpost to a more appropriate service.

Therapy sessions are typically weekly for around 6-12 weeks in total.

Our interventions are evidence-based and informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, so they have research and theory behind them.

We use Routine Outcome Measures (ROMs) which are short forms to monitor progress throughout therapy and hopefully evidence the reduction in symptoms. These can also highlight other problems, or if further support may be required after therapy is completed.

We have strong links with our colleagues within Options4CYP and within the Blackpool community.

To make a self-referral to one of our Options4CYP services, children, young people or their parent/carers should fill out the online form.

  • We offer weekly therapy sessions for 6-12 weeks, at a place of your choice. This can be at Whitegate Drive Health Centre or another community setting
  • We can talk to you and your parent or carer about what you are finding difficult
  • We might work with you directly or with your parent to help you feel better
  • We might put you or your parent in touch with other professionals who can support you
  • Therapy with a CYWP is all about identifying what keeps your difficulty going, and learning new skills. There will be activities to take home and practise, and some activities to do in session, to help you learn to break out of the cycle

Our social media pages share many evidence-based interventions and strategies in supporting a variety of young people’s emotional mental health development needs.

CYWP is not an urgent response service.  The service does not provide evidence-based interventions for young people who are at very high risk or those who present with some complex mental health disorders. We are happy to discuss these cases with you and provide you with advice.
