Primary Mental Health Workers (PMHWs) are a community point of contact within Blackpool Children and Young People’s Primary Mental Health Service.
We offer support and advice regarding the emotional wellbeing of children and young people at an early stage when difficulties first arise.
PMHWs are professionals from a variety of backgrounds who are trained and experienced at working within mental health such as mental health nurses, accredited counsellors/therapists and experienced teachers.
PMHWs link with many community settings to help promote positive wellbeing, to raise the importance of young people's mental health and provide appropriate guidance in accessing the correct services to support young people's mental health.
PMHW’s can also offer advice on referrals, implement pathways of support and provide information about other services available to children and young people’s emotional mental health development.
Families are welcome to attend our weekly drop-ins around Blackpool. Drop-ins are a confidential space with a Primary Mental Health Practitioner to discuss worries and concerns relating to a young person's emotional mental health.
- PMHWs can offer immediate support and advice in young people’s mental health development. This maybe guidance around emotional regulation or linking in with other services to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. PMHWs can also make appropriate suggestion of onward referrals into services
