The clinical librarian service is available at no cost to all staff and learners of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Our aim is to bring information and knowledge services into clinical setting by providing best evidence available to healthcare professionals. We provide a variety of skills and services to help you access and utilise the best evidence available.

Once we receive your request, we will contact you if any clarification is required, and then we will search available medical databases to find the most relevant and up-to-date information for you. We aim to send search report within 10 working days of receiving your request. However, the timescale is negotiable, so let us know if your require the results urgently.

This 45- minutes session introduce participants to the features of BMJ Best Practice, searching for evidence, appreciate its information structure and using the CMS/CPD feature.
This 60-minute session introduces principles and techniques for planning and carrying out effective literature search of using healthcare databases. The session will cover how to define search question, identifying key concepts, alternative term, search techniques, combining searches and handling results.
This 60-minute gives a basic critical appraisal overview. It will help participants to recognise the importance of critically appraising evidence. It will equip participants with tools or checklist required to appraise evidence. The session will include practical experience using CASP appraisal tools to evaluate journal articles.
A 40-minute session introducing the NHS Knowledge and Library hub, contents, and tips to get the most out of the hub’s content. By attending this session, you will discover how to access the resources and use the Knowledge and Library hub to locate literature or evidence for practice or education.
This 60-minute session introduces participants to the principles and techniques for searching using CINAHL database. The session will teach participants how to define search question, how to use keywords and medical subject headings to search on CINAHL, using limits, filters and handling results.
This 60-minute training with an overview of the Embase database. It will provide participants with the opportunity to learn how to develop search strategy from research question, search using keywords, medical subject headings to search, applying limits and filters and how to handle results.
This 60-minute session introduces participants to the techniques for searching using TRIP database. The session will introduce participants to the features of TRIP, how to search using TRIP database, using filters and handling results.
This 60-minute session gives an overview of reflective writing. It will help participants understand the use of reflective models, tips, and benefits of reflective writing/practice. The session will include a practical session on reflective writing using relevant scenario.
The module is designed to help healthcare staff (clinical and non-clinical) build confidence to search published articles and evidence relevant to their work, study and research. There are 7 modules suitable for novice searchers and those wishing to refresh their knowledge.
