Pupils attending educational out of school provision are often vulnerable young people who can be at a difficult time in their lives and need intense support.
They are taught in small groups to receive the individual support they need to overcome any medical, emotional or social issues.
Young people are often referred by their school with the support of a medical professional, often Child and Adoescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). The placements are initially for six weeks to assess ongoing needs and then hopefully the young person can return to their own mainstream school.
School Nurses still provide a service to all pupils in educational diversity settings and a weekly drop-in is being offered to all Athena pupils.
