If you think your child has balance and co-ordination problems, talk to a GP, School Nurse, or special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) within school. They may refer you to a suitable healthcare professional who can complete further assessments, such as a Paediatrician, Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist.
Coordination difficulties are the main feature of dyspraxia, affecting large (gross motor) and small (fine motor) body movements. Children with dyspraxia can also experience difficulties with organisation, planning, attention, memory and processing speed. Some have difficulties with speech and language.
Dyspraxia or Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD) can be identified at any age, however early recognition will enable your child to receive the support and understanding they need to fulfil their potential. Without help and support, problems can persist and become more apparent during the primary school and high school years.
