1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. Many of us go through difficult times in our lives, which can leave us feeling worried, anxious, or depressed and feeling unable to cope.
Blackpool Talking Therapies offers a range of brief, evidence-based, therapeutic interventions to support people’s needs, this includes; online, telephone and face-to-face treatment options. All treatment is FREE and provided by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Being a military veteran can significantly affect your mental health. If you're a veteran experiencing mental health challenges, it's important to reach out for support. There are people who can help, like mental health professionals, veteran support organizations, and the VA. They can provide guidance, treatment, and understanding tailored to your needs. Remember, seeking help is a brave and important step towards feeling better. Blackpool Talking Therapies offers treatment to military veterans and adheres to the Military Covenant.
Approximately 1 in 4 older adults will experience common mental health conditions. Older people respond well to talking therapies and are more likely to recover than younger adults. The good news is change is possible at any age, and as our psychological and emotional development never stops throughout life. We can all benefit from talking therapies regardless of our age.
Blackpool Talking Therapies are not able to provide reports for compensation, legal or benefits claims or prescribe medication. Blackpool Talking Therapies do not offer 24-hour or weekend access, crisis or urgent treatment, treatment for alcohol or drug problems or treatment for severe and enduring mental illness. Please discuss these needs with your GP.
- Severe and Enduring Mental Health Conditions - If you have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or a personality disorder, NHS Blackpool Talking Therapies may not have the right resources to provide the specialized care you need. These conditions may require more long term or specific treatment. Talk to your GP to explore alternative options or self refer to the Initial Response Service by calling 0800 0130708 who will offer an assessment to help identify the most appropriate service to meet your needs.

Multiple Traumatic Events - If you've experienced multiple traumatic events across your life NHS Blackpool Talking Therapies might not have the specialized services needed to address these issues as we are a short term therapy service. Following a welcome call assessment or CBT Assessment you may be signposted back to your GP or to another service that is more appropriate to meet your needs.

Substance Abuse or Addiction - Drug and alcohol misuse are not automatic exclusion criteria for accessing NHS Blackpool Talking Therapies, however if you are experiencing these problems Talking Therapies may not be the right service to help you. NHS Blackpool Talking Therapies do not provide specialist interventions to directly address these problems. If your drug and alcohol misuse would impact on your ability to attend or engage in therapy you may be signposted or referred on to a specialist service that can more appropriately meet your needs.
