The new parent wellbeing group is a six session, 90-minute course (including a break half way through each session). We also offer an additional brief 30-minute introductory session to provide an overview of the course content, structure, housekeeping, and problem solve any technical issues.
The aim of the course is to introduce researched evidence-based tools to support new parents and caregivers with symptoms of stress, anxiety and low mood as they navigate this chapter of their lives.
The new parent wellbeing group combines techniques based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Relaxation and Mindfulness.
This is an education course and is not interactive, there is no discussion of personal problems.
Each week you will be introduced to new information, coping strategies and techniques to help and support you navigate the impact of stress in new parenthood.
Weekly associated booklets are provided to enhance learning and support the application of information and strategies discussed each week.
The New Parent Wellbeing group is delivered online via Microsoft Teams and is available by recording for 3 days (72hours) after the live event.

If you are unable to attend a live session at the time it is delivered live, there is a catch-up option for the session available for 72 hours. Being a parent, it may be difficult to attend this group live, therefore, we want this to be as flexible as possible for you to attend no matter what the week brings.
Please find below a short itinerary for the course to give you an idea of the topics that we will be covering.
Introductory session (30mins). To ensure registration and online access to group. Session will cover navigating functions of online group, housekeeping, weekly format, session resources and overview of course.
WEEK 1 (90 minutes): An introduction to common signs of postnatal anxiety and depression by understanding factors that influence wellbeing. Also offering an introduction to mindfulness.
WEEK 2 (90 minutes): Increasing awareness, understanding triggers and learning about thinking styles with Soothing rhythm breathing.
WEEK 3 (90 minutes): An overview of worry, problem solving, and attention training, with 5,4,3,2,1 grounding.
WEEK 4 (90 minutes): Understanding behaviour: looking at avoidance, reassurance seeking and checking. Developing confidence in difficult situations, with progressive muscle relaxation.
WEEK 5 (90 minutes): Feeling low? Bringing compassion, value and meaning into life, with self-compassionate relaxation.
WEEK 6 (90 minutes): Communication: developing understanding and skills to improve communication with others. Learning about how your baby is communicating with you. Bringing it all together.
