Blackpool Victoria Hospital's Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Department is a large unit that covers many aspects of Gastroenterology.
We have a busy Endoscopy Unit, performing around 15,000 procedures a year and the unit continues to develop many new techniques in therapeutic endoscopy.
The unit has recently been extended from a four room unit to a seven room facility and refurbished to a high standard to provide a comfortable facility for patients undergoing endoscopy procedures. The modern, high-tech equipment available allows for the most up-to-date procedures (such as Endoscopic Retrograde Chloangio-Pancreatography - ERCP, Endoscopic Ultrasound - EUS, TNE, Balloon Enteroscopy and Capsule Enoscopy Endoscopy) to be carried out on patients.
We run both inpatient and outpatient lists and emergency care via Accident and Emergency Care.
We are an accredited service monitored by the Joint Advisory Group known as JAG.
What is JAG accreditation?
JAG accreditation is the formal recognition that an endoscopy service has demonstrated that it has the competence to deliver against the criteria set out in the JAG standards. The JAG accreditation scheme is a patient-centred and workforce-focused scheme based on the principle of independent assessment against recognised standards. The scheme was developed for all endoscopy services and providers across the UK in the NHS and independent sector. To achieve JAG accreditation an endoscopy service must provide clear evidence that they have met all of the JAG standards. JAG accreditation assessments are booked once an endoscopy service has demonstrated a minimum of a year participating in the GRS and performing at the agreed GRS levels required for accreditation.
